Store executives don't want to talk about it, but the men and women who work at Quebec clothing retailer Simons all received pay increases recently, without even asking.
The minimum wage for store employees was recently increased by $3 an hour to $16, and employees who had reached the top of the retailer's salary scale also got an extra $3 per hour to $19.
Contacted by the Journal de Montreal, Simons Marketing Vice-President Philippe Normand said the company had decided not to explain its decision.
Some employees claim they got the raise because there is a shortage of workers in the retail sector nation-wide and stores are competing for their services.
The minimum hourly wage in Quebec is $12.
