Tomas Plekanec said he "enjoyed every single second of it".
The Canadiens announced on Sunday the player many simply called Plek had been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs along with another forward, Kyle Baun.
In exchange, Montreal got defenceman Rinat Valiev, forward Kerby Rychel and a 2018 second-round draft pick.
Plekanec, who was known for wearing a turtleneck sweater under his team jersey, played in Montreal for 15 years.
He told reporters playing with the Leafs is really exciting.
"I'm going to the team that's gonna be in the playoffs and having a chance to play for a Stanely Cup and that's awaesome", he said.
Plekanec also reminisced about the teammates he's had.
"I got a few messages from most of the guys, so far, so, like I said, I had so many great, great teammates over the years, great, great bunch of guys that I really enjoyed playing with and I can't say enough", added Plekanec.
Plekanec didn't forget the fans.
"Montreal Canadiens fans are unbelievable... they were very respectful towards me and I can't say enough", he said.
