A woman says she spent 7 hours waiting at the MUHC emergency room with her 87-year-old mother, who was having difficulty breathing.
Pascale Nemey says they eventually had to leave, without ever seeing a doctor.
"Every time we went to the nurse she said 'we're waiting for a bed, it might not take too much longer,' but my mother was so exhausted she couldn't take it anymore. She was going to faint, so I brought her home so she could lie down and sleep and take her medication," Nemey told CJADs Andrew Carter.
Nemey's mother has cancer and emphysema.
She says she can't understand how a vulnerable, elderly woman who's having breathing difficulties, can not be seen by a doctor in 7 hours.
"It's supposed to be emergency," she said.
The MUHC says the Royal Vic's ER is very busy with an occupancy rate of 133 per cent.
