Former Cote St. Luc mayor Robert Libman says something needs to be done about easing traffic in his city — particularly traffic heading in the direction of Decarie Blvd.
Libman says the city needs a global traffic plan for the city.
"Every eastbound artery toward Decarie is clogged," he says, "whether it's Vezina, Plamondon, Ellerdale, Cote St. Luc Rd. People trying to get to Decarie. Everyone feels completely landlocked."
Libman suggests opening up Cavendish to Hwy. 40 and changing some of the light configurations would be among some of the solutions he would implement right away if he gets his old job back on Nov. 5.
The incumbent, Mitchell Brownstein, says he's already working on the traffic problems. He suggests many of the solutions Libman is proposing requires coordination from the neighboring town of Hampstead and Montreal's Cote des Neiges-NDG borough, and he says he's already on it.
"We have a traffic engineer that has been working with Hampstead and Montreal, and we're going to continue to work in the next mandate to synchronize the lights on both Cavendish and Fleet," Brownstein says.
He also says an indirect route linking Cavendish Blvd. to Hwy. 40 is set to happen within the next three to five years.
