A Quebec company is the first of its kind to make a zero-emission bus entirely in Quebec.
The E-Lion is a 70-seat bus that can travel nearly twice the average Quebec school bus route on a single charge.
As of this fall, 50 E-Lions are debuting on provincial roads.
The company behind the eco-friendly bus is called Autobus Lion, and the company is quickly becoming a big hit south of the border.
"We're also selling our buses in California" president Marc Bedard told CTV Montreal. "We just started selling in Massachusetts as well. New York City, we feel we're going to be getting sales there soon."
The E-Lion costs a little more than double that of a regular bus, but the Quebec government's commitment to go Green means there is a $125,000 rebate and Bedard said in the long run customers can expect to save close to $10,000 annually on fuel and maintenance.
The Quebec company isn't stopping at buses, and has plans to expand its operations.
"Within the next two to three years, we are building trucks like delivery trucks, trucks that can be used for Transport Quebec and Bell," said Bedard. "Service trucks and trucks for goods transportation."
As an added bonus, kids really seem to like the one of kind bus, it part because of the sound the company has the buses play when traveling at slower speeds. The E-Lion is so quiet when traveling under 30 km/h that for safety reasons, it plays a chime similar to the one heard in Montreal metro stations prior to a message over the public address system.
