Police in Quebec City are gearing up for what could be another violent day of protests in the provincial capital this weekend.
Right-wing groups La Meute and Storm Alliance are organizing a demonstration against the Quebec Liberal government and the wearing of the niqab, burqa or any other face coverings linked to religion in the province.
A spokesperson for the groups told La Presse the demonstration was planned months ago to oppose the Quebec government's consultations on systemic racism, which have since been given an overhaul.
The groups said despite the name change and shift in focus, the spirit of the original consultations remain.
Organizers are hoping to bring in about 1,000 people for the demonstration, which will take place on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in Quebec City at an undisclosed location.
Anti-fascist groups are aware of the protest and have planned their own demonstration at the same time.
The left-wing groups believe La Meute and Storm Alliance spread racist and extreme agendas.
The last time the opposing sides met in Quebec City it ended with several arrests and police in riot gear clashing with protesters after several acts of violence and vandalism.
