They shoveled and filled sandbags, with the goal of filling 10,000 bags to deliver to homes that may need them.

Volunteers worked along firefighters and public works employees in Terasse-Vaudreuil, off the western tip of the island, Friday.

They shoveled and filled sandbags, with the goal of filling 10,000 bags to deliver to homes that may need them.

"We're worried about a good 80, 100 houses," fire chief Stéphane Rozon told CJAD 800.

Craig, a volunteer from neighbouring Ile Perrot, drove over after hearing the call for help this morning on CJAD 800.

"My mother-in-law and stuff, they all live out here, so you gotta help the community," he said. "Even though I'm not the one suffering you still gotta come give a hand and if more people did that, less people would be suffering."

Terrasse-Vaudreuil resident Chuck Murphy also came out to help.

"The neighbourhood is one of the best places I've ever lived and I just want to make sure my neighbours are safe," Murphy said.
