Montreal's bus drivers are reporting an increase in aggressive behaviour from passengers and are asking the public to channel their traffic frustration elsewhere.
President of the union representing bus drivers Renato Carlone says the abuse starts during the morning rush - and lasts all day
"There's over 400 construction sites on this island, it's bumper to bumper traffic," says Carlone. 'There's bus stops that have been cancelled, people want to get off, the bus driver can't allow them to get off so the altercations start there."
He says drivers are getting exhausted and wish the STM would step in to communicate with customers so driver's don't have to absorb the brunt of their frustration.
"We understand the users get to work late," he says. "The bus driver's just doing his best he's not responsible for the detours or the delays."
Carlone says recently delays can range from 20-40 minutes on some routes causing tempers to flare - and he wants to calm the public before a serious incident happens.
He says bus schedules need to be adjusted to more accurately reflect the current traffic delays.
