An apparent rift between star striker Didier Drogba and Impact coach Mauro Biello appears to have been sorted out — at least according to team president Joey Saputo.
Drogba refused to play after being relegated to the substitutes' bench for the Impact's 2-2 draw with Toronto FC on Sunday at Saputo Stadium.
Before the game, the team had said Drogba was unavailable because of a back injury, but later, Biello confirmed the 38-year-old had refused to accept his assignment.
On Tuesday, Saputo issued a statement implying that Drogba is fine with everything.
"The situation has been resolved to the club's satisfaction," the statement read. "Didier has accepted to assume the role that the head coach sees fit while contributing to the success of this club moving forward. When he came to Montreal, Didier said he came here to win, and he still has the same objective."
The Impact have one regular-season game left — on Sunday afternoon against the New England Revolution in Foxboro. The team clinched a berth in the MLS playoffs with that draw against Toronto.
