Repairs to the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge were supposed to be completed last spring but not only does work still have to be done, the project has gone over budget by around $3 million dollars.
A spokesperson for the Ministère des Transports de Québec tells the Journal de Montréal that repairs to the bridge are more complex than first thought. Anchor plates needed to strengthen the bridge's beams arrived late, and according to the MTQ need to be assembled and installed individually.
Because of the delays, the photo radar site in the construction zone is also still in place, and the Journal indicates it makes about $20,000 on a daily basis.
The work on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge was initially supposed to cost $4.4 million dollars. The MTQ says the work is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
