The Longueuil police force is now equipped with defibrillators in the event of an emergency.
A total of 32 defibrillators were purchased and are now in squad cars. Officers were trained to use them in November and some have already had to do just that.
Longueuil police spokeswoman Marie Beauvais-Lavoie tells CTV the machines are easy to use. She says the defibrillators can walk the user through reanimation with voice commands. According to Beauvais-Lavoie, each of the electrodes have specific instructions that explain where they should be placed on the body.
Other nearby police forces have also begun equipping their cars with defibrillators as police officers are often first on scene to an emergency. Laval police have installed 22 machines in their cars, and tell CTV they have used them 14 times since acquiring them in 2012. Montreal police also have plans to put defibrillators into use in the future.
