An NDG man facing charges of criminal harassment of the mayor of the borough of Côte-des-Neiges-NDG will learn on March 12 whether he violated a bail condition that ordered him not to communicate directly or indirectly with her.
Robert Michael Edgar, better known as Robin Edgar, was seen in a DVD video played in court asking questions about Sue Montgomery at a city council meeting in March of last year.
Edgar, 58, is seen asking the questions to Mayor Valérie Plante and leader of the official opposition Lionel Perez.
The questions were about an incident involving Montgomery and Edgar outside her church a week earlier.
Montgomery testified she left the council chambers so she wouldn't have to see Edgar. She testified Edgar made her nervous and didn't know "what the guy was going to do. I see him everywhere I go."
Montgomery testified Edgar was at council asking questions on a regular basis and saw him at her church about a hundred times over the past 20 years.
Edgar testified his bail conditions were modified, that he had a different understanding of the conditions and that he believed he had the right to be at the council meeting.
Crown prosecutor Allard François argued that even making a statement and asking questions about Montgomery at council constitute indirect communication.
Defence lawyer Jordan Trevick argued his client was not in violation of his conditions, did not intend to breach his conditions in anyway and any message was accidental or unintentional.
Quebec Court Judge Dennis Galiatsatos will render his decision in two weeks.
Edgar was originally charged with criminal harassment of Montgomery between October 17 and December 12, 2017.
