The Dollard-des-Ormeaux man charged in connection with the shooting last November of his young son and father-in-law will remain detained at a psychiatric facility for the time being.
The 36-year-old accused, who can't be named to protect the identity of the children involved, waived his right to a bail hearing and will stay under guard at the Pinel Psychiatric Institute.
"The bail hearing, in a situation when we discussed with the prosecution, we thought it best to start with the preliminary inquiry and given that it's in a very short period of time, this is the best course forward," said defence lawyer Alexandre Bien-Aimé.
The inquiry is scheduled for two days late next month.
The judge told the accused that even though he is renouncing his right to a bail hearing, if there was such a hearing, she would order his detention.
The accused, sporting a dark sweater and a mustache, appeared emotionless and said nothing except, 'Thank you,' at the end of his brief video conference appearance from the Pinel Institute.
Bien-Aimé would not comment on the psychiatric evaluations ordered for his client.
The accused faces six charges including attempted murder.
His five-year-old son and 69-year-old father-in-law suffered injuries after being shot at a home in Kirkland on November 9, 2018.
