Dans La Rue launches spring fundraising campaign

Dans La Rue has launched its spring fundraising campaign and wants now more than ever make its founder proud.
To mark its 30th anniversary of helping homeless youths, the charity wants to raise $500,000.
"In this anniversary year, we are focusing on the tremendous potential of the young people we help. The projects developed as part of the 30th anniversary, as well as our fundraising efforts, will salute their courage, but especially their achievements and successes. It is important for us to spread Pops' message of hope and his unending belief in the potential of all young people," said Étienne Lalonde, Senior Director, Development and Communications at Dans la rue.
Dans La Rue was founded by Father Emmett Johns "Pops" in 1988. He passed away in January at the age of 89.
Since then with the money it's raised, 95% of which by private donations, the organization has to respond to the complex needs of homeless youth. It offers a permanent day centre, an emergency overnight shelter and a 17-unt home all while sending a van out onto the streets of downtown to help young people in need.
Dans la rue by the numbers in 2017:
- 182,000 hot-dogs distributed on the Van
- 21,220 visits by youth to the Day Centre
- 4,307 support sessions with intervention team
- 2,471 nights spent at the emergency shelter
- 171 youth in the employment program
- 37 youth enrolled in the Emmett Johns School
