A Montreal woman says she was the victim of road rage on a bike path in NDG this week.
Darragh Mondoux says on Wednesday, she was riding along the De Maisonneuve Blvd. bike path near Grand Blvd. — a place where she says is popular with joggers.
"In this particular instance, I was trying to pass another bicycle, and I see this jogger coming at me going east, I was on my bike going west," Mondoux told CJAD 800's Andrew Carter. "And I just yelled at him, 'Hey! You're not supposed to be on the bike path.'"
Seconds later, she slowed to a stop. The jogger, meanwhile, got his hands on her and gave her a shove, pushing her and her bike to the ground.
"I was completely shocked," she said. Later, she suggested the jogger, whom she described as a sporty, middle-aged man, pretended to be the victim.
"He felt really attacked, he was really asking me, 'why did you attack me?'" she said. "But I think any cyclist would know, I never intended to run him over with my bike."
Mondoux wasn't seriously hurt — though she did make a trip to the nearby Queen Elizabeth Clinic to get treated for some bruises.
Later, she filed a complaint with police, and suggested the officer she spoke with may not have been up on the rules regarding joggers on bike paths.
Joggers and walkers are not allowed on Montreal bike paths, and neither are motorized vehicles, like scooters and mopeds.
Motorized wheelchairs, however, are okay, and so are regular wheelchairs, rollerbaders and skateboarders.
So far, no one's been arrested for the push.
She says despite the incident, she plans on calling out more joggers she believes are venturing onto cyclists' territory.
