The City of Montreal has created an Open Data crime map which offers some details on criminal activity across the city.
In a statement the city says the map will be updated on a regular basis and it's release reflects the administration's move to a more transparent government.
The creators have also insured that while general data about crimes are always available no private information will be released.
As an example if a break and enter occurs at a home, the date and only rough location of the incident such as a street corner will be released, never an address.
