The STM has changed tack and is now allowing bus drivers to let people board and exit at the back of the bus as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus.
Some bus drivers were already proceeding that way but the STM told CJAD 800 yesterday that it was not endorsing the measure and would meet with drivers to remind them it wasn't allowed.
But its Facebook post now promotes the measure "to reduce direct contact" along with others such as limiting one client per group taxi and limiting sales of bus passes to vending machines.
The STM continues to say that the risk of transmission in the public transit system is low.
The Laval transit authority had said it was okay with the initiative that was proposed by the bus drivers union.
The Longueuil transit authority had also rejected the idea at first but is now on board with it as well.
