A Montreal-area couple is suing the OVO fertility clinic for $292,000, alleging a story that is not far off from the premise of the latest Bridget Jones movie.
The mother claims back in 2010, when she was three months along in her pregnancy, she went to the clinic to determine if the father of the baby was her recent ex-spouse, or new love.
According to the lawsuit filed to the Quebec Superior Court, the woman says she was told by the director of the clinic's genetics laboratory that her former spouse was the father—which turned out to be wrong.
The ex-spouse became the legally-recognized father of the baby girl, who is now five years old and was also given the man's surname.Â
Meanwhile, the lawsuit claims the actual father had to raise his daughter, believing she was someone else's child, for years.
The couple says that the clinic never delivered the written test results to the mother of its own accord.
CJAD 800 News has reached out to OVO. A clinic director tells Radio-Canada the facts are "more complicated" than how they are presented by the couple, but had no further comment.
