How would you like to go downhill skiing on Mount Royal? And not down some beaten path, but a real actual ski hill.
According to the Journal de Montreal, in the not so distant future you may get that chance.
The newspaper is reporting the City is in conversation with a group looking to bring the Alpine Skiing World Cup to Montreal in either 2020 or 2021.
The idea would be to bring Mount Royal's former ski hill back to life. The slope, which sits near the Université de Montreal, was closed in 1979.
In order to get the project up and running a lot still needs to be done. The abandoned ski hill needs a good clean up and of course there's the financial aspect of it all. An executive committee press secretary told the newspaper those talks are only in their infancy.
The group hopes to become a stop on the World Cup circuit for four straight years after opening, with the next move being added to the existing North American racing network.
If all goes to plan, Montrealers will get their very own ski hill downtown.
