Premier Philippe Couillard attended a closed-door meeting with prominent members of the Anglophone community Thursday at Dawson college, as part of an ongoing pre-election effort to woo English voters in the Montreal area.
After the meeting, Couillard said he took the opportunity to hear from the community directly, and to assure them that he would push for things like better access to public services in English, including education and health.
Couillard also highlighted the role that Keithleen Weil was given last year as representative for the Anglophone community, saying that it was an example of how the Liberal government is not taking Anglophones for granted.
Prior to the meeting Couillard announced that 1.5 million dollars would be given to Dawson college to help them create more room for students in the future.
When asked by a reporter why voters should keep the Liberals in power rather than vote for change, Couillard said that his government's work has produced a strong economy and voters should want that to continue. He also called Finance Minister Carlos Leitao "probably one of the best finance ministers in the country."
