The Côte-des-Neiges/NDG borough council is going to consider a request to restrict the number of restaurants along Côte-des-Neiges Road.
The Côte-des-Neiges business association (Association des gens d'affaires de Côte-des-Neiges) tells the Journal de Montreal that reducing the number of restaurants on the street would create a more balanced neighbourhood.
The Quebec restaurant association (Association des restaurateurs du Québec) agrees saying there is a saturation point.
Borough mayor Russell Copeman says council will consider the request but he would be reluctant to introduce a bylaw that would restrict competition.
Last month the SouthWest borough council approved a bylaw that prohibits new restaurants from setting up within 25 metres of an existing establishment along a stretch of Notre-Dame Street.
