Construction on Monkland Ave. has created difficulties getting around the area, but one man with ALS says it has become particularly hard—and dangerous—for those with disabilities.
Norman MacIsaac says the newly-constructed sidewalks have curbs too high for his wheelchair.
Under borough regulations, curbs are to be built one centimeter higher than the street, but on some corners, like at the corner of Monkland Ave. and Oxford St., they were built several centimeters taller.
“If I come towards the incline, I have to slow down,” MacIsaac told CTV Montreal. “If that’s at a stop sign, the danger is that if I slow down to make that maneuver, the cars are coming very close behind me."
"Frankly, in some places I was scared I would tip over.”
The NDG resident says he called 311 over a month ago, but was given little information and it took time to even get a case on file opened.
