She says she did it because she was afraid for her life.
One of the three Quebecers accused of smuggling a huge stash of cocaine into Australia onboard a luxury cruise ship is explaining her actions to the court after entering a guilty plea.
29-year old Isabelle Lagacé told a sentencing hearing that she'd borrowed $20,000 from loan sharks and when she couldn't pay it back, they insisted she become a drug mule - or else.
Lagacé could face a life sentence. The Journal de Montreal reports that she will learn her fate in September.
Her two co-accused entered not guilty pleas and are awaiting trial. All three have been held in jail since their arrest on board a cruise ship that docked in Sydney last year. Investigators say $30-million worth of cocaine was found hidden in suitcases in their cabins.
