Quebec radiologists are worried about ultra sound services in 2017.
Health minister Gaetan Barrette plans to extend medicare coverage to ultra sound testing in private clinics.
That's something the province's federation of specialists is ok with that, but radiologists are concerned the system may not be able to cope with the demands, if the minister moves too fast.
Dr. Vincent Oliva, president of the Quebec Association of Radiologists, spoke with CTV.
"That's what we don't want. We're afraid of that because we're not ready. The health care system is complex, we have to do it slowly, gradually, we will have to train technologists and build up the services. So, if he wants do it progressively, fine, overnight, it's not gonna work", said Dr. Oliva.
Among other things, the specialists added the government should better use under-used ultra sound resources in hospitals.
