The Montreal Taxi Bureau has recorded a record number of complaints from the public against cabbies for 2016 — and there's still three months left to go.
The bureau has recorded 849 complaints so far this calendar year, compared with 810 in all of 2015.
Five years ago, in 2011, a total of 645 complaints were filed with the bureau.
Despite how things look, the bureau is putting a positive spin on the numbers.
"It shows that the measure we've put in place [to register complaints] is bearing fruit," spokesperson Marie-Hélène Giguère told the Journal de Montreal. "Management of complaints is a fundamental asset toward improving service."
She also points out that somewhere around 20 million rides are given by Montreal's cabbies every year.
Most of the complaints, according to the paper, have to do with drivers' attitudes or behaviors, though the Taxi Bureau wasn't specific about the nature of those complaints.
