Residents living near the Turcot construction site are noticing more dust now that the weather is warmer so they're wondering where are the promised measures to mitigate the problem and what this is doing to their health.
CJAD 800 contributor Ethan Cox was among residents who took to social media with their complaints.
"A huge cloud of dust just came blowing down the street. All of the cars on all of the streets have a thick layer of dust on them," said Cox who was walking his dog earlier this week near the Lionel-Groulx Metro.
Cox said the problem has never been this bad.
"Something has gone seriously wrong. And it's so much dust it's causing people causing breathing, it's causing me trouble breathing."
Cox filed a complaint and Transport Quebec said they follow up on every one. Spokesman Martin Girard told CJAD 800 News the cleanup measures have begun this week.
"There's trucks that will clean different roads in the area," said Girard.
"They also put water on the road to make sure there's less dust produced by the work."
Stephanie Nazywalskyj put up with that dust for two years before moving an hour away off the island. She told CJAD 800 News that mitigation measures didn't work for her.
"You get asthma, you cough a little bit more," said Nazywalskyj.
"Since leaving the city, (...) my throat doesn't hurt, my nose isn't so snotty. It's pretty remarkable the difference"
Montreal Public Health toxicologist Karine Price is reassuring residents.
"We do not expect long-term health effects that are related to total suspended particles. Those types of particles are like dust so they don't cause long-term health effects, it's really effects that are short-term," said Price.
"We don't expect any long-term health issues related to the construction site."
