The hundreds of motorists who got stuck on Highway 13 in 2017 during a snowstorm should be getting compensation.
They're being told by their lawyers there's a settlement pending in their class action lawsuit.
Lead plaintiff Marlene Berman was stuck for nine hours in her car in the cold and snow.
An inquiry into the incident blamed a communication and organizational breakdown and singled out Transport Quebec and the SQ for underestimating the situation.
Berman said she was elated when her lawyer told her the news about the expected settlement.
"I actually thought it was just going to drag on and I think, with all due respect, the fact that I was the squeaky wheel and all the media coverage that we received, and the tenacity of the 400 people actually that are part of the Fb group, I don't think they could have given us the runaround for very long," said Berman in an interview with CJAD 800.
The compensation should depend on each person's experience. Lawyers would not offer any more information and said details are expected at a news conference tomorrow.
But Berman said for her, it wasn't about the money.
"It was just, Where the hell was everybody when I was sitting there freezing my butt off? Nine hours sitting in a car with no end in sight in a country like Canada where we are familiar with snow, under the sign of Bombardier (on Highway 13), it just was wrong on so many levels," said Berman.
The settlement still has to be approved by a judge.
