A van with four children passengers collided with three or more vehicles at three different places along Montreal-area highways on Saturday, reported by witnesses to be driven erratically.
The 40-year-old driver from Lanaudière was arrested. He will face charges of dangerous driving, said spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, Éloïse Cossette.
The police received several calls stating that a man was dangerously driving a van with four children inside, starting shortly before 10 am.
According to police, the driver first struck a vehicle on Highway 40 West at Henri-Bourassa Blvd., then another near Marien Ave.
The driver of one of the cars hit ended up racing in pursuit of the van. The second driver, a 49-year-old man, also from Lanaudière, will also be charged with dangerous driving.
The van was seen several kilometers away, first hitting another vehicle, and then into the median divider on Highway 132, near Roland-Therrien Boulevard.
Four children were in the van, aged between two and six years old. The Sûreté du Québec also found drugs inside the van, the substance and quantity of which have not determined.
All of the children were taken to hospital. One sustained life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.
Two of the three westbound lanes of Highway 132 were closed for several hours as police investigated.
