Montreal mayor Denis Coderre is promising another sports facility in another borough if he's re-elected, this time a $45-million aquatics centre in Pierrefonds-Roxboro.
Coderre already announced a week ago that if he returns to power, he'd build a $50-million sports and aquatics centre in Lachine.
Coderre made assurances the budget can accommodate the construction of two such centres at the same time.
The new Pierrefonds-Roxboro centre will be built where the old Pierrefonds arena used to be, right next to the borough hall.
Coderre said it'll get done in two to three years.
Meantime, Projet Montreal leader Valérie Plante promised today to do more to protect heritage buildings in the city.
Plante said her administration would increase the number of heritage property inspectors, would put into place an electronic inventory that would be updated regularly, would levy heavy fines against landlords who neglect their heritage buildings and would expropriate the structures if they deteriorate or stay vacant for too long.
