Luc Ferrrandez the executive committee member responsible for Mount Royal says there is no plan to reconsider the decision to stop converting Beaver Lake into a skating rink during the winter months.
The Journal de Montreal says Ferrandez, who is also the mayor of the Plateau-Mount-Royal borough, told a council meeting this week that engineers have been unsuccessful in trying to devise a way to make the rink safe.
Ferrandez says that when he became mayor in 2009 the Beaver Lake rink was open for 100 days, but last year it was only open 37 days and it appears that the trend is to warmer winters.
The city will build a standard skating rink next to the swimming pool next winter.
