The city of Montreal will be spending more money next winter to help dig out snowbound residents with reduced mobility and improve access to adapted transit.
The city said its model is based on services already offered in the boroughs of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Plateau Mont-Royal and Ville-Marie.
Jean-François Parenteau, the city's point man on snow removal, said the boroughs will identify who needs the service and hire companies to help clear their balconies, entrances and access to the street for adapted transport.
Parenteau said it should cost "a couple of hundred thousand dollars," adding that the Plateau pays around $8000 for its service.
