If you think there are more potholes than ever so far this year, you are correct.
City of Montreal crews have so far since the start of January filled in close to 54,000 potholes, eight thousand more than last year.
Spokesman Philippe Sabourin said that's thanks to the weather cocktail of frigid temperatures, warmer days, snow, freezing rain and regular rain that have wreaked havoc on the roads.
And even though that wild weather may slow down pothole repairs, Sabourin said they're about 20% more efficient this year in doing the work, with ten pothole-filling machines on the road at all times.
"Even if the equipment is broken, the new contract with the entrepreneur obliges the firm to send on the road ten equipments,"' said Sabourin in an interview with CJAD 800 News.
Sabourin said once spring arrives, four more machines will help fill up the potholes.
The city is spending about 30% more this season on pothole repairs compared to the previous season - for a total of $3.5-million.
