The city of Montreal says it has nothing to do with text messages asking for payments.
The messages are being sent by people claiming to be with the city asking for payments for traffic tickets, among other things.
If you receive such messages, you're asked to call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center.
On Thursday, the SAAQ, Quebec's auto insurance board, also warned about a similar scam.
A text message appears to give the person the option of renewing a driver's license by following a link, but it's actually a way to obtain personal information.
The SAAQ said it's not sending out such messages.
