Montreal City Council has passed a resolution declaring the city's opposition to an Elections Quebec proposal to merge the provincial ridings of Mont Royal and Outremont.
The Montreal Gazette reports the resolution didn't get unanimous support from councillors, passing by a vote of 50 to 11.
The declaration also calls for Montreal to maintain a minimum of 28 seats in the National Assembly.
Former MNA and borough Mayor of Cote des Neiges/Notre Dame de Grace, Russell Copeman, says Montreal has lost 7 riding seats in the legislature since 1992, despite a population increase.
Hundreds of west end residents gathered for a meeting in Cote des Neiges last week to protest the Elections Quebec decision.
