A school bus full of children was forced to the side of the road around 2 p.m. on Wednesday after smoke erupted from the engine and filled the bus.
"The kids were evacuated—they are all safe," Julie Pacquet with Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Inc. confirmed to CJAD News.
"They waited on the side of the road there on the Champlain Bridge while firemen came to stabilize the situation [....] shortly after a new bus came in and took the kids to a safe environment off of the bridge."
The smoking bus forced the closure of two lanes on the bridge towards Montreal, but once the bus was towed they were reopened, Pacquet continued.
There was worry of an engine blaze, but Pacquet says firefighters were able to determine that—this time—where there was smoke, there was no fire.
