Former Canadian national ski team coach Bertrand Charest is going to be in court Thursday, asking to be released from prison pending the outcome of his appeal.
Just last week, Charest was sentenced to 12 years behind bars after being convicted on 37 charges of sexually assaulting nine young women and girls whom he had coached over the years, including one who was 12 years old.
Charest claims he was convicted despite an absence of "proof beyond a reasonable doubt".
His lawyers claim the grounds for appeal are serious and Charest is at low risk of fleeing.
