Work on the Champlain Bridge has been completed after three years and $378 million.
The bridge's 100 edge girders have been reinforced with modular trusses and shoring systems that should stabilize the structure. The final truss was installed Friday.
Consortium spokeswoman Julie Paquet tells the Journal de Montréal that despite the bridge having reached the end of its life span, the stabilization work is a security net for the current structure until the new Champlain Bridge is finished.
The new bridge is expected to open in December 2018, and will cost $4.24 billion.
