The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is expanding a recall of butter, which could have been contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
The brands the CFIA has newly added to the recall are Perron and Buerre du Lac brands (CUP 7 72622 72454 0 and code 143 069, and CUP 0 62260 00455 6 and code 143 032, respectively). Both were sold in 454 gram sizes in stores.
The CFIA says in a statement that the products should not be consumed, and added, "if you think you have been sick after consuming a product that is subject to a recall, contact your doctor. Check if you have the products covered by the recall at home. If so, throw them away or take them back to the store where they were purchased."
It is difficult or impossible to tell if a food like butter has been contaminated by Listeria from either sight or smell, so if you have any of the recalled products at home, you should throw it away.
The original recall from the CFIA was issued last Wednesday, involving St-Laurent brand (CUP 0 62260 00454 9 and code 156 074).
