If you plan on driving downtown this afternoon you may want to plan your trip to avoid the downtown core over the lunch hour.
Centraide kicks off its annual fund raising campaign with a march through the streets.
About 20,000 people are expected to take part.
It starts with a rally on the stretch of McGill College Avenue between Ste Catherine and Sherbrooke from 11:30 until noon.
Then they will walk along Ste Catherine to the Quartier des spectacles.
Centraide is an umbrella charitable organization that funds 350 community agencies in Montreal.
Streets closed today:
McGill College Avenue will be closed to traffic:
6:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. between De Maisonneuve and Sainte-Catherine
11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. between Sherbrooke West and Sainte-Catherine
No traffic will be allowed on Sainte-Catherine Street West between McGill College Avenue and Jeanne-Mance Street from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Motorists are advised to avoid the entire downtown area bordered by McGill College, Sainte-Catherine, Jeanne-Mance and Sherbrooke West between 6:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
