They've been invading the Laurentians and our neighbours in Ontario and they're starting to arrive in Montreal.
Big furry tent caterpillars have been spotted in yards and gardens on the island.
Teresa Amorosa, manager at West Island Nursery in Pierrefonds said clients have been coming by since the end of June with samples of the slithery insects invading their trees.
"These are annoying pests when we have so many of them all at one time," said Amorosa in an interview with CJAD 800 News.
"They can devastate your fruit trees and your maple and oak trees too."
Amorosa suggests a natural insecticide such as BTK or if the problem has only just begun:
"As soon as you see that nest, you can just take a stick and scrape it off and just bag them, burn them, do whatever you have to do to get rid of them," said Amorosa.
Amorosa said you can also expect to see plenty of other bugs in your yard soon such as aphids and grubs.
"All this moisture that we're getting, all this rain, is creating this perfect environment for these insects," said Amorosa.
"Just get informed. You can come in and talk to us or call us, we'd be happy to advise you but no need to panic."
