Nearly six months into its term in office, the CAQ government still hasn't followed through on one of its key campaign promises — to cut exorbitant hospital parking rates.
A little more than a year ago, CAQ MNA François Paradis — now the speaker of the National Assembly — rose up in the Assembly to demand the Liberal government cap rates at anywhere from $7 to $10, and make parking free for the first two hours.
Parking rates remain just about where they were since that moment. At the MUHC's Glen hospital, the top parking rate is at $24 for those parking for anywhere between four hours and a full day — only one dollar cheaper than it was when the hospital opened in 2015.
Parking is free up to 30 minutes, but after that, it costs $12. If you want to stay parked there for more than an hour, the fee becomes $16, and between an hour and a half and four hours, it becomes $22.
Quebec's health ministry told TVA News that it will honor the CAQ's promise, though it hasn't provided a firm timetable.
