The Jean Lapointe Foundation is launching the 5th edition of its Défi 28 jours sans alcool (28 Days Sober Challenge).
The foundation expects to raise half a million dollars this year, with close to 10,000 people participating.
By registering on the foundation’s website, participants pledge not to consume alcohol in February, while donating a total of $28, a dollar a day for the month.
Funds raised will help prevent addiction among 76,000 teens this year through the free APTE program in schools across the province.
Since 2008, the foundation has focused primarily on the prevention of substance-abuse problems among school-aged youth. In 5 years, more than 270,000 high school students participated in the prevention workshops.
According to the Quebec Institute of Statistics, the number of young people with a drinking problem has decreased by 16.5% in the last 10 years in the province.
