If you're planning to head north to enjoy the great outdoors for vacation or just the upcoming long weekend, you're free to do so, so long as you don't plan on sitting by a camp fire.
Quebec's forest fire prevention agency (SOPFEU) and the Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks have issued a ban on open fires as of 8:00 A.M. Tuesday.
The ban will remain in place until further notice.
According to SOPFEU, to date there have 260 forest fires in Quebec (affecting 5,162.6 hectares) in 2018. The 10 year average at this time of year is 256.
Anyone caught breaking the ban could be fined.
