The Montreal police force's new hotline for people to report sexual misconduct crimes has been very busy since being put in place last Thursday — if its first two days of operation are any indication.
Police say no less than 174 calls came into their 514-280-2079 line on Thursday and Friday of last week — and many of those have led to investigations being launched.
The line was set up in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal in Hollywood, and allegations of serial sexual misconduct levelled at several high-profile Quebecers.
The line is in operation from Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Those who wish to file complaints on a weekend can call 9-1-1, or visit their local police station.
