An Ahuntsic family continues to wait for a broken water main outside their home to be fixed, but after two months worries are growing their property will be damaged before the borough gets to the rupture.
Mustapha Bentajer tells CJAD 800 News the pipe burst on December 18. He has been calling the borough since then for updates on when it will be capped.
Last week, he followed up again, but says he was told the file has been closed.
"[She told me an official] came and he closed that file, that means it's done—which it is not," he said.
Since the leak began, the number of holes in the road where water is escaping has grown from one to six, he added.
He says he is worried about the foundation of his home being damaged, though they have been spared any thus far.
"I don't want to wait," he said, adding his insurance told him he is only covered for $10,000 in damages, "and I know if it touched my foundation it will be more than this."
He's also worried about the other underground line supplying gas to his neighbourhood.
"If something happens, all those houses are going to blow up—me, I have kids [to worry about]," he added, saying he has experience working with pipes under pressure, working in the boiler rooms of McGill University.
The Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough could not be reached on Saturday, but had confirmed to the Journal de Montreal that repairs would begin next week, saying the delay was because its workers have had to prioritize the clearing of snow over water main repairs.
"I can't [sic] believe it until I see it," Bentajer responded.
