A boil water advisory has been issued for the city of Varennes until further notice.
The municipality announced Wednesday that traces of E. coli were found in a sample of the drinking water.
Residents are advised to boil their water for at least one minute before consuming it, or use bottled water to drink, brush teeth, rinse their mouths or wash food.
The water can still be used to wash dishes so long as they are thoroughly dried, and to wash clothing.
The advisory is in place until further notice.
