Provincial police said a body was found not far from where a 37-year old man disappeared late Saturday while swimming in the Soulanges Canal.
A coroner has been called in to investigate the case and an autopsy is planned.
He was swimming near the locks of the canal near Vaudreuil, just west of Montreal.
Police in Vaudreuil received a distress call around 6:30 Saturday evening from someone who said one of two swimmers failed to resurface.
A search was then launched involving the Coast Guard and firefighters from Pointe-des-Cascades and Pincourt.
A man in his 50's was swimming with the victim.
The SQ added swimming's prohibited in that area, that there are signs saying so.
