Firefighters made a grisely discovery at an apartment building fire in Pointe-Aux-Trembles anow the Montreal police arson squad is investigating.
The 911 call came in around 11:45 p.m. on Monday about a residential fire on de Montigny St. near St-Jean-Baptiste Blvd.
Firefighters arrived and quickly got the situation under control, but inside the third-floor apartment where the blaze began, a body was discovered, a police spokesman confirmed.
Death was declared at the scene by both the fire department and Urgences-Sante paramedics.
The body is believed to belong to the tenant of the third-floor unit, a man in his 60s, according to police.
Another 20 residents were evacuated without any injures.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but the police arson squad is taking over the investigation.
