The Montreal blue collar workers union has adopted an interesting tactic in defending itself against contempt of court charges.
The union says it was unaware that a one-day strike on December 8, 2015 was illegal.
The Journal de Montreal says in court yesterday the union's lawyer Jacques Lamoureux says there is no evidence that union president Chantal Racette and four high ranking officials were notified of a judge's ruling leading up to the strike that a walkout would be illegal.
At the time the union was fighting Bill 3, the pension reform law.
Court was also told yesterday that Racette even admitted in a radio interview that the strike was illegal.
A recording of the interview from radio station 98.5 FM was entered as evidence.
The judge has reserved judgement.
