Dozens of people politely shuffled into H&M on St Catherine at 8:00a on Black Friday, some had started the line at 4am in hopes of landing a big discount.
"I had the same vision as what you see in America, I thought it was going to be loads of people..." said Saul, one of the first people in line. "It was not what I expected."
At 6:00am 5 people were huddled outside the shop, but by 7:30am the line was around the corner, by 8:00am elbows remained tucked to shopper's sides and away from eachothers ribs as the doors opened.
Shopper Brandon says while Canadian Black Friday is more restrained - so are the savings.
"It's way crazier and there are better deals in the US than in Canada," he said. "It's also more civilized here so that's cool too."
Many of the people that chose to come out early for the black Friday deals were students, others popped by to try their luck on their way to work downtown; a gift card of random value was given to the first 100 people to enter the store - everyone hoping to scratch and win the $300 shopping spree.
Most recieved a 50% discount, including those dedicated few who camped out since the wee hours of the morning.
In Quebec the first day of the Christmas shopping season is referred to as "Vendredi fou" which translates to "crazy Friday", but to shoppers releif there were no deadly stampedes here this year.
